Tea Tin (Boston Harbour Tea) - T As an introduction to the Boston Tea Party event while reviewing the American Revolution. I would prepare some iced tea, using the Boston Harbour Tea company tea and allow the students to see the loose tea in the can as well as in the pitcher of tea. Some students might not be aware of the concept of loose tea, and might have imagined the colonialists throwing tea bags into the harbor. Boston Tea Party Petition Printout - T I would provide my class with a large print, laminated copy of the petition. We could review it as a class and then post it on the wall for them to interact with during the lesson on the Boston Tea Party. A tea bag, stamps, and sugar packets-T These could be used as realia of what was being taxed by the British parliament. We could identify prior knowledge about these products and examine their importance in every day colonial life. A lantern- T In regards to the ride of Paul Revere this artifact could be used to examine the important actions taken by Patriots in their fight for independence. This artifact can be a hook in discussing other events and actions taken by other patriots. Picket Signs- “No taxation without representation” “No Tea Act” “No Stamp Act” “No Sugar Act”- T These could be used during some sort of reader’s theatre while students explain the slogan “no taxation without representation”, then go on to explain the tea act, stamp, act, and sugar act. Flashlight- T Paul Revere used the light in the North Church to warn, one if by land, two if by sea. American Flag- R This artifact allows students to relate to the creation of the original 13 colonies becoming a nation.
